© 2006 Acre Family Day Care Updated March 27, 2007 |
Mission Acre Family Day Care has been serving low-income, immigrant women and families in Lowell since 1988. Our mission is to help women build home-based family child care businesses, earning a living wage while providing community-based child care to the families of Lowell. The agency consists of 50 family child care providers who care for 300 children every day. Most clients are Hispanic, Cambodian, or African American, and are from lower-income backgrounds.
In the past five years: Over 1,300 children received day care services through Acre family child care providers. Acre’s staff of child care specialists conducted over 2300 visits to the family child care homes to ensure the children received safe and developmentally-appropriate care. 70 women participated in Acre’s training program preparing them to run family child care businesses in their homes. Additionally, Acre offered over 250 hours of workshops and classes to all family child care providers contracting with the agency. Over $80,000 in small business loans were made to family child care providers in order to buy educational supplies, make improvements to their child care homes, and to enroll in college courses or professional child care conferences. |
